Linda Jabane Young Communist League Resolutions

We workers, our children and wives, the helpless old people who are our parents, we have come to you, Sire, to seek justice and protection. We are in great poverty, we are oppressed and weighed down with labour beyond our strength, we are insulted, we are not recognised as human beings, we are treated like slaves who must suffer their lot in silence. And we have suffered it, but we are driven deeper into beggary, lawlessness, and ignorance. Despotism and arbitrary rule are strangling us, and we are suffocating. Sire, our strength is at an end. The limit of our patience has been reached; the terrible moment has come for us when it is better to die than to continue suffering intolerable torment.” This is a passage from a petition presented by Marchers to the Tsarist regime on the 9th of January `1905, notoriously known as Bloody Sunday
It is under this backdrop that, as the Linda Jabane District Young Communists League, convened our District Council bearing in mind the pervasive nature of capitalism which has, to some extent, bedevilled our beloved masses in many parts of Johannesburg. We met in the aftermath of the State of the Nation Address that should have provided certainty about the objectives of a developmental state in line with what is envisaged by the National Democratic Revolution.
Instead it seems to have entrenched institutions of capitalism and gave the green light to our modern slavery masters in the form of employment agencies to do as they please with young workers. His (Cde. Jacob Zuma) failure to denounce these masters served as testimony to the notion that the government is actually subsidising this practice. If our observation is wrong than we once again call upon the Labour Minister to keep to his pre-election promise that “Labour Brokering must be BANNED”. We call for the active participation of all stake holders (government, corporate and labour) in the creation of sustainable employment which seeks to address the needs of a developmental state.
After much consideration and perusal of the Document on NATIONALISATION, presented by some leaders of our PYA partner in the ANCYL NEC, we cannot help but agree that there is indeed a need to “SOCIALISE” not only the mines but the all the “commanding heights of the economy”. The question therefore is once again; ‘how do we nationalise something that is not even in government’s hands, on whose behalf are we going to Nationalise and at whose expense? Are we well capacitated to do such? Is this an opportune time? We therefore dismiss the said document as nothing but a smokescreen by the ‘tenderpreneurs’ aimed at bailing out distressed Capitalists and their puppets in the mining industry. Our view is therefore that there is an urgent need for SOCIALISATION but such action should be determined by the material conditions prevalent at that time, thus now is not the right time.
Our purported ‘differences’ especially with the ANCYL at both lower levels have been misconstrued as an attempt to take over the ANCYL at branch level. As the YCL of Linda Jabane District we dismiss this notion and wish to state clearly that we cannot “take over” an organisation that we are part of as many of our members hold dual-membership. It therefore goes without saying that the so-called “take-over-theory”, as propagated by some, is neither here nor there. Ours is to influence all PYA partners with the view of achieving our common objectives as enshrined in the NDR. Our view is therefore that no PYA partner is more important than the other as we should agitate a mutually beneficial relationship with the best interests of the Youth at heart. As the YCL in this regard, we will not allow ourselves to be swallowed by the heat of the moment- so we will continue to defend the ANCYL from within.
We have observed with great concern some unsavoury comments coming from certain individuals within the Tripartite Alliance, with some going as far as to drag the good name of Cde Gwede Mantashe through the mud. This unsolicited attack amounts to nothing more than the persecution of Communists by tenderpreneurs. We wish to state that it is our role to defend principled leaders of the Alliance. We are not going to pander to the whims of some profane leaders. U Cde Gwede “SIFANAYE”.
We are also finding ourselves confronted with a situation where we have to defend our beloved South African Communist Party from opportunist emanating from within and who are trying to impose a culture that is foreign to us. The emergence of some dark forces from within the organisation has left a bitter taste in the mouths of the Young Communist in Linda Jabane District. The said individual has been dissolving party branches and imposing leaders through patronage at his own will. We are not comrades of comrades so would therefore thwart any attempt to use party structures to launch the muted new democratic left led by the said Mr Money Bag. For guidance’ sake, the YCL District Secretariat refers the SACP DEC to Section 7.1 and 7.2 of the SACP Constitution and to section 5 of the YCLSA Constitution. All YCL members are compelled to join the SACP and be activists members of the Party.
We are calling for the immediate formation of a Deployment Committee at branch level whose function would be to oversee deployment of cadres, accountability to the Party, implementation of Party resolutions by deployees and adherence to Party resolutions. This will help avert an imminent pandemonium of ill-disciplined comrades masquerading as disciplined forces of the left.
We are not going to stop in our quest for a Public School within the JHB CBD in line with the call for free and quality education. And we also urge the SABC to play its Nation Building role by airing relevant programmes at relevant times of the day. We do not see why the education Channel aimed at school children, is aired at a time when most Matriculants in particular are still in school. We will continue to support both SASCO and COSAS in their quest for a more inclusive education system.
Cde Tambo said on women within the movement:” Women in the ANC should stop behaving as if there is no place for them above the level of certain categories of involvement. They have a duty to liberate us men from antique concepts and attitudes about the place and role of women in society and in the development and direction of our revolutionary struggle”. This is indeed a clarion call on our female comrades to lead us in the struggle for total emancipation of women and to enable an environment where we will look at ourselves beyond the lens of gender or victimhood. Through our Gender commission we will continue to seek to strike a balance in the interests of all sexes.
We re-iterate our call for the immediate formation of a Jurist. These are judges that will be elected by the masses so as to enable contestation of ambiguous verdicts. This will also help avert some dictatorial tendencies as often displayed by some judges.
South Africans can never claim to be free while the people of Swaziland are still living like peasants under the Swazi Monarchy. We will continue to support the Swaziland Solidarity Network and other Organisations elsewhere in Africa and the world at large that agitate for the freedom of their masses. We also wish to thank the Young Left of Sweden for gracing us with their presence and their valid input on Communism.
We wish to thank the YCL PEC for their unwavering commitment to the Marxist-Leninists ideals in particular, and the role they continue play in assisting various Districts under their leadership. We as the Linda Jabane District will continue to draw strength from these cadres.
Socialism is the future, build it now.
