YCLSA welcomes the departure of Pitso from the Bafana set up
5 June 2012
The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] welcomes the move by the South African Football Association [SAFA] to fire Pitso Mosimane as the Head Coach of the Senior Football team famously known as Bafana Bafana.
Mosimane`s departure was long overdue considering that Bafana Bafana has gone 9 matches without a win including not qualifying for the 2012 edition of the African Cup of Nations [AFCON]. The draw in a very important game against a low ranked Ethiopian side [138] was a last straw. It made perfect sense to let him go if we are to realise our intentions to win the 2013 edition of AFCON to be played here in South Africa and qualify for the world cup to be hosted by Brazil in 2014.
As the YCL we are hereby making a call to SAFA to invest more in player development and the resurrection of soccer school competitions. We have to develop our players at an early age and ensure that they are tactically superior. Failure to invest in development will results in us firing coaches all the time while the problems lies with players with no football acumen.
We welcome the appointment of Steve Khompela as caretaker coach and we are convinced that he will do us proud in the next games against both Botswana and Gabon. The YCL would also like to wish all the best to SAFA well as they appoint a new coach to lead the national team. Our country is full of coaches with potential to elevate Bafana Bafana to be the best team in the world .e.g. Gordon Igesund, Gavin Hunt and Steve Khompela.
