Government Should Commit Itself in Memory of Mahlangu
The Young Communist League of South Africa calls on government, youth leaders, the National Youth Commission and Umsobomvu Youth Fund to commit themselves in serving the needs and interest of youth as we remember Solomon Mahlangu, the late leader and member of the ANCYL.
Mahlangu remains a hero and gallant in the face of youth, as he fought for a better South Africa, and lost his life in the process in the hands of the Apartheid regeime.
The YCL believes that a lot should be done to change the lives of young people, including fighting unemployment, poverty, crime, drugs and HIV/AIDS.
Unemployment has become the greatest enemy amongst youth, with 60% of the unemployed being young people.
We believe that Mahlangu will shake his head in shame if the youth of the country are worse of than they were before he was hanged.
The YCL will continue to fight for the needs and interests of youth, and help them in becoming better off than they are.
The YCL will use the coming Special Congress of the SACP to commemorate Mahlangu and many other youth leaders who died in the hands of Apartheid forces.
