Statement on factional calls for the reshuffling of the Mayoral Committee
20 July 2012
The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in the Greater Tshwane District is highly disturbed by media reports (e.g. Pretoria New, 12 July 2012) which suggest the presence of factional manoeuvres to push for the reshuffling of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.
It is extremely factional and malicious for an integral structure of the ANC to grandstand in the media and call for the reshuffling of the Mayoral Committee. It is even disgusting and utter lack of respect to assert that some Mayoral Committee members were wrongfully appointed and are deadwoods. Such disgusting and disrespectful acts constitute utter contravention of ANC internal discipline.
It will be wrong in the extreme to reshuffle the Mayoral Committee as a response to such factional manoeuvres which are only aimed at targeted members of the Mayoral Committee. Should such a reshuffling take place it would only serve as confirmation that those who contravened internal ANC procedures using the media were actually fronted to do so in order to serve the New Tendency. This tendency is interested in nothing but gaining and using access to the state as a means of privately accumulating wealth through deployments and tenders while an overwhelming majority of our people are suffering exploitation, unemployment, poverty and inequality.
As the YCLSA we are interested what steps will the ANC in the region take to deal with the contravention internal procedures. The absence of such action will only serve to suggest that there a problem within the ANC itself.
We will also engage with the Communist Party in our district on the performance of the Mayoral Committee and request engagements with the ANC.
