YCLSA congratulates COSAS on its 33rd Anniversary

The young communist League of South Africa (uFasimba) takes this opportunity to wish the Congress of South African Students a glorious 33rd Anniversary of commitment to student and general struggles since its formation on the 31st May 1979.

The YCLSA extends its congratulations to the militant and radical student formation for the contributions it has made in ensuring that the movement lives and leads, especially appreciating the hard repression years of successive state of emergencies by the apartheid government leading to the large flocks of students to exile to get military training, the formation of the United Democratic Forum and the South African Youth Congress.

Successive generations of COSAS have never failed the task at hand for the transformation of education to date.
Many challenges still persist which are remnants of the structural deficiencies we inherited when we took over the apartheid state but the resilience of COSAS is important in winning this battles towards the achievement of the NDR which will bring us closer to socialism.

COSAS has remained in the forefront of challenging the lack of classrooms, teacher-student ratio and non-provision or late delivery of textbooks. The "One Textbook One Student" slogan is still relevant and must be pursued now as we see the shortage or non provision of such to students thus leading to an entrapment of working class learners in the system. COSAS must take governemnt to task for gambling with the future of South Africa.

COSAS must also further seek to ensure inclusivity within its ranks and campaigns on taking issues of race, disability and language barriers forward as we seek a transformed people`s education that will build an advanced cadreship ready to take forward our nation.

We must further challenge the liquor board and the government on the spatial development that allows the building of bottle stores and tarvens next to schools and institutions of higher and we must regulate even their operations as has been seen that they get to extents of offering discounts to students. This must not just be condemned but fought by the broader movement especially the Progressive Youth Alliance.

We wish the Congress of South African Students more and more revolutionary years in pursuance of a free public quality education system.

On the 17th of June 2012, the Young Communist League of South Africa will be having its Youth Day Rally at Ephraim Mogale Stadium (Named after the 1st President-General of COSAS) in Modimolle.
